Sisal Series
The sisal exploration series is part of my continuous investigation of territory and biodiversity from a textile perspective. My focus of interest is the study of natural fibers and dyes used in traditional crafts and exploring their potential to design textiles for a more sustainable future. After a trip to the Yucatan peninsula, in Mexico, I traced back the sisal production. I understood its place in Mayan culture, the pre-synthetic era, and its use as ropes. Besides the history and nature of sisal, the subtle shine and drop of the fiber captivated me, and I incorporated it into my textile practice.
